||Furnace Pressure Control Technology for Fuel Efficiency

It is generally agreed that controlling furnaces pressure is a key factor in controlling cold air infiltration and is essential for fuel efficiency. Furnace pressure is normally controlled by a mechanical damper and pressure gauge. The problem with the existing technology is that the pressure gauge reading is so small 0,005 kPa (0,02 in.wg)that it tends to drifts and the instrument requires constant recalibration.
The Heat Flow Transmitter (HFT) is an invention capable of supplying a control signal that replaces the furnace atmosphere pressure gauge. The Hatch HFT will supply a reliable and stable pressure control signal. A pilot project applying the HFT technology and air curtain was undertaken in a primary aluminum furnace. Client records indicate that fuel consumption was reduced by 33%. Now being rolled out in the other furnaces of this casthouse, we expect to reduce their global warming gas emissions by 3,200 tons/year.
