Abstract Scope |
In this research, microstructure and mechanical properties of aluminum alloy Al7068 reinforced with hybrid of GNPs and SiC composites produced by ball milling, stir casting and ultrasonic waves have been investigated. The effect of hybrid of SiC+GNPs with a varying weight fraction (0.5GNPs-1SiC, 0.5GNPs-3SiC, 1GNPs-3SiC wt.%) on microstructure and mechanical properties of AA7068 metal matrix is studied. The microstructure was investigated by SEM and TEM. Further investigations revealed that the addition of GNPs+SiC increases tensile strength. At high GNPs+SiC contents (1GNPs-3SiC wt.%), the presence of GNPs+SiC agglomerates on grain boundaries were found that causes decrease the tensile strength. The optimum amount of nanoparticles is 0.5 wt.% GNPs-3 wt.% SiC. The average UTS of the specimens before and after T6 heat treatment and extrusion processes increases from 212 MPa to 630 MPa (197% enhancement in tensile strength). |
