The present paper examined the role of chlorides ions concentrations on corrosion and passivation behavior of Zr42Cu50Ag8 BMGs in artificial physiological solutions of artificial blood plasma, artificial saliva, Ringer’s and phosphate buffered saline.
Electrochemical corrosion and EIS tests were conducted with the help of potentiostat attached with frequency analyzer. Corrosion kinetics parameters were obtained from polarization plots and found that the corrosion current density and corrosion rate were significantly higher in the Ringer’s solution as compared to other physiological solutions. SEM images were taken after polarization test and it revealed that the formation of deep pits and covered corrosion products due to dissolution of metal for Ringer’s solution.
The polarization resistance (Rp) was obtained after curve fitting of impedance data and the Rp value was observed 140093, 48633, 39221 and 81005 ohm.cm2 in the solution of artificial blood plasma, artificial saliva, Ringers and phosphate buffered saline respectively.
