Abstract Scope |
The Zn-Ni alloy coated steel is used in automobile for excellent spot weldability and paintability properties, but Zn-Ni coating solution may not be sustainable due to higher cost of nickel and nickel falls under heavy metal might be banned. Two different grades of Zn-Fe alloy coatings were studied for long-term sustainable solution. In this work, the effect of direct and pulse plating parameters on Zn-Fe alloy paling is studied. Zn-Fe coatings are electrodeposited galvanostatically on steel substrates from acidic chloride baths. All deposition parameters like electrolyte composition, direct current density and pulse current parameters were optimised based on coating deposition kinetics, morphology, and corrosion resistance properties. Microstructural analysis shows coarse plate like porous structural coating was obtained under DC whereas finer, compact and needle like structures was obtained under pulse current. Different phases are analysed. Corrosion test results indicate finer, compact and needle like structures shows best corrosion resistance properties. |
