Abstract Scope |
This talk overviews work on semi-solid deformation mechanisms and how they lead to casting defects in pressurised casting processes, building from original work at the University of Queensland. Results from real-time synchrotron imaging are used to discuss deformation mechanisms and how they generate macrosegregation and shear cracking. Further insights are presented from recent discrete element method (DEM) simulations that help with the interpretation of the experimental results. The findings are then used to discuss defect formation in high pressure die casting. |
