||High-strength and High-conductivity Sheets for High Field Bitter Magnets

Cu-Ag alloys may be used in the form of sheets for the construction of modern generators of high magnetic fields, especially the Bitter magnets. Coils can generate magnetic fields with high performance properties, i.e. high strength, impact and fatigue resistance with high also electrical conductivity simultaneously in low operating temperatures (77K). High electric conductivity of Cu-Ag alloys contributes to Joule heating reduction. High mechanical properties are necessary for the transfer of generated, considerable Lorentz forces. The paper presents results of laboratory studies on obtaining of ingots from Cu-(1-7wt.%)Ag alloys. Has been shown influence of different heat treatment and plastic deformation on microstructure evolution and the mechanical (UTS: 750-1360 MPa) and electrical properties (72-95 %IACS), anisotropy of their properties and change of value Resistivity Residual Ratio obtained material (plates thickness 0,3mm) measured at 77K. In addition, a microstructural analysis was carried out on casts and sheets using SEM and TEM microscopy.
