Chromium-containing vapors formed from the oxidation of chromia scales on alloys used for SOFC interconnects and in the balance of plant can lead to poisoning of the cathode and degradation in fuel cell performance. Information on the concentration of chromium in the SOFC system can be used to develop proactive responses to mitigate the degradation. In this paper an approach for measurement of chromium containing vapors using a solid electrolyte with an auxiliary electrode will be presented.
