| Abstract Scope |
The reverse transformation of martensite to austenite in a Fe-10Ni-7Mn (wt.%) alloy with starting martensitic microstructure was investigated during continuous heating upto the dual phase region followed by isothermal holding for various times. The diffusionless reverse transformation was occurred above a specified heating rate resulting in lath-shaped austenite with high dislocation density. It is found that substantial transformation into austenite takes place after isothermal holding for 120 min at 873 K which mainly remains untransformed after subsequent cooling at IBQ.Furthermore, the presence of austenite formed by displacive mechanism leads to the observation of pseudoelastic behavior during cyclic tensile test. In this behavior, during loading-unloading tensile cycle, the shape of the specimen return to its original configuration with a hysteresis loop in its path to the zero strain point |
