||Characterization of Stress and Microstructure of Zr-4 alloy Processed by Pulsed Laser

The higher performance cladding materials are demanded for the current and future nuclear reactors. In order to improve the properties of the existing cladding, laser shock processing (LSP) has been applied to commercial Zr-4 cladding tubes. After LSP the surface residual stress of specimen has changed to be more beneficial for corrosion resistance. The grain size and the dislocation density of specimens has also been characterized. From the above experiments we suppose that LPS could enhance the anti-irradiation properties and corrosion resistance of Zr-4 alloy and could be an effective method to optimize zirconium alloy performance. We also studied the different effects of different pulsed laser parameters such as pulse energy, frequency and scanning speed on the specimen, for determining the better parameters to do the further research on heavy ion irradiation and corrosion tests.
