The flow conditions at the ports of the submerged entry nozzle (SEN) are crucial for continuous casting of slab steel since they determine the flow behaviors. The flow in a continuous casting mold was evaluated through the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) based on mesoscopic model. The effects of nozzle immersion depth and casting speed on the transient flow were discussed. The water model experiments were carried out in order to prove the validity of the established model. Numerical results agree well with measurements from the physical experiments. The model contributes to deeper understand the flow field in continuous casting process from the mesoscopic view.
