With new installations Material Distribution Systems and conveying systems are in focus because of investment costs.
With older installations, the Material Distribution System gets more into focus due to high maintenance cost and limits in capacity. Material attrition influences the conveying properties. On the other hand the conveying parameter influence the rate of attrition. With upgrades this might create a vicious cycle.
In this paper factors influencing the decision for refurbishment or modification of conveying systems are described.
A laboratory investigation on the parameters of conveying influencing the material properties is presented. In this investigation particle size and the feedback on conveying and handling properties is described.
To what extend is an increase in maintenance cost acceptable? Options for upgrades of conveying systems are presented.
