Achieving refined structure of large ingots is an issue of interest for aluminium production by semicontinuous casting. To achieve this, certain alloy additives are added to molten metal. At present, we see an ever-growing use of physical treatment methods, i.a. ultrasonic treatment of molten metal.
The article reveals the impact of cavitation together with the use of rod-shaped alloy containing grain forming centers. It also contains the results of melt flow ultrasonic treatment during slabs semicontinuous casting at UC RUSAL facilities and a track record of the use of ultrasonic method in production.
