The ferroelastic behavior of (BiNa)0.5TiO3-xBaTiO3(BNT-xBT) solid solution was studied by dynamic mechanical analysis system. At x<5 (such as x=0, 4), they show a typical ferroelastic phase transition, whereas at x>5 (such as x=6, 7) they show a strain glass transition (strain glass is the glass state of a ferroelastic system), which are conformed via long range and local structure measurements. This is the first time to clearly identify strain glass state inside BNT-xBT. The ferroelastic and strain glass transition temperature consists very well to the structure phase transition temperature, while show clearly difference with the ferroelectric transition temperature at the beginning compositions. By viewing this system as a combination result of independent ferroelastic and ferroelectric behavior, lots of unusual behaviors of BNT-xBT can be well understood for the first time by this multi-ferroic approach. |
