In this talk we will present how atom-probe tomography has furthered our understanding of thermally induced phase transformations in near-alpha Ti, alpha plus beta Ti, and metastable beta Ti alloys. In particular, we will review: (i) alpha-2 phase-formation in IMI 834 and Ti-6Al-4V wt.%, which is associated with poor cold-dwell fatigue performance; (ii) the embrittling omega precipitates in Ti-5Al-5V-5Mo-3Cr wt.% (Ti-5553) that are believed to be a pre-cursor to the strengthening nanoscale alpha precipitate formation; and (iii) the depletion of alpha double prime-domains in Ti-24Nb-4Zr-8Sn wt.% (Ti-2448) with a concomitant loss of superelastic properties. The influences of instrument parameters on results obtained will be discussed.
