Magnetocaloric materials present a promising route for chemical-free refrigeration. A common challenge is achieving a large change in entropy while managing the hysteretic effects associated with the first-order martensitic phase transition of the material. In this work, we present neutron scattering studies of the magnetoelastic coupling in Ni45Co5Mn36.6In13.4 at the second-order magnetic phase transition (Tc=395K). We quantify the amount of vibrational entropy associated with the coupling, and show that the coupling is focused in the TO-like [H00] phonon, which softens anomalously upon heating above Tc. Furthermore, we present calculated and measured magnon data that indicate antiferromagnetic ground state at T→0K.
