Abstract Scope |
The production of artificial stone using as reinforcement iron ore residue and as a matrix the epoxy resin can be a viable alternative to give a sustainable destination to the residue, which today has as destination dams and deposition ponds, which bring risks to environment and to human health. The project aimed to produce artificial stone for coating reusing iron ore residue, thus adding economic value to this material. The specimens were produced through pressing, with resin content of 15%. Environmental and thermogravimetric analysis, physical tests and chemical attack experiments were performed. The residue was classified as non-inert and non-hazardous. The hydrochloric acid was the one that most affected the ASIO. Regarding to the water absorption, the ASIO obtained a compatible value with the values found for artificial marbles. The production of ASIO proved to be viable, in addition to providing an environmentally correct destination for the iron ore residue |
