||Probing Local Lattice Distortion in High-entropy Alloys

The atomic-level tunability that results from alloying multiple transition metals in high-entropy alloys (HEAs) has produced remarkable properties for advanced energy applications, in particular, damage resistance in high-radiation environments. The key to understanding HEAs’ radiation performance is quantitatively characterizing their complex local physical and chemical environments. Using pair distribution function (PDF) method, we quantitatively analyzed the local lattice distortion in medium-entropy alloys and HEAs. And the impact of the lattice distortion on the radiation defects in HEAs was also studied. By integrating two characterization techniques (PDF and extended X-ray absorption fine structure), we systematically studied the evolution of local environment in HEAs under ion irradiation.
