| Abstract Scope |
A new method based on transfer matrix approach is proposed for the determination of ternary interdiffusion coefficients over any composition ranges is presented based on interdiffusion flux and concentration gradient of independent components. This method is clear in physical meaning and straightforward in computation. To evaluate the accuracy and reliability of this new method, three case studies including basic concentration profile, concentration profile with uphill diffusion and extrema, and concentration with experimental uncertainty were examined. Results from this new method were compared to Dayananda and Sohn’s integrated flux method (DASO) and Bouchet’s numerical inverse method. This new method works well in all cases, and performs better than other methods particularly near the Matano plane. |
