Recently, there has been a strong demand of developing high performance of catalytic and cell electrode materials by use of nanoporous Au structure, because Au element has much better advantage as compared with other noble metals. Au-based glassy alloys with high Au contents above 50 at% have been used as the original alloys for production of the nanoporous structure. If Au content in the original glassy alloys is reduced by adding a larger amount of Cu or Ni transition metal, the resulting nanoporous materials are expected to have a great advantage from the viewpoints of materials cost and natural material resources. This paper aims to present the glass forming ability, thermal, mechanical and corrosion properties of Pd-Cu-Ag-Au-Si glassy alloys prepared by melt spinning and copper mold casting as well as the formation and electrochemical properties of Au-containing nanoporous structure products prepared by de-alloying of the Pd-Cu-based glassy alloys.
