This talk will discuss uncertainty quantification (UQ) approaches as applied to additive manufacturing applications. Several UQ approaches in addition to Monte Carlo sampling will be presented. These approaches will be discussed in the context of some additively manufactured parts, specifically with the goal of relating uncertainty in the process parameters and the microstructure to the continuum scale modeling. To the extent possible, we will present experimental and simulation results for the same application, where the laser power and scan velocity in a Powder Bed laser sintering machine are varied. This will allow us to quantify the resulting uncertainty and develop a validation case for the simulation.
