||Investigation of the Thermodynamic Stability of LSM-YSZ Mixture by Applying the CALPHAD Approach

Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) has been widely studied because of its various critical applications like oxygen sensors, thermal barrier coating (TBC), and electrolyte in solid-oxide fuel cells (SOFC). It is reported that the specific morphology and physicochemical properties of YSZ surfaces impact its functionality in all the aforementioned applications. The structure of a surface and its properties depend on the stability of YSZ in various conditions. In this study, the CALPHAD approach is adopted to predict the thermodynamic stability of LSM-YSZ mixture in various conditions and the results are compared with the experimental observations. The results of the thermodynamic investigation of LSM-YSZ system could show the phenomenon might happen in the SOFCs, due to the dissolution of Mn in the YSZ.
