||Advanced Mechanical Characterization for High Temperature Materials

High temperature mechanical characterization (or testing) of materials has historically been an important area of investigation. The temperatures of interest for this characterization continue to increase, driven largely by requirements in the transportation, aerospace, and energy sectors. The associated technical challenges increase significantly as characterization temperatures exceed 1000°C.
An overview of the technical challenges associated with elevated temperature mechanical characterization will be presented. System architectures designed to support creep, stress relaxation, tensile, compression, and fatigue testing at temperatures as high as 1500°C will be reviewed. Results from recent system evaluations will be presented with an emphasis on system alignment, durability, and thermal performance.
