||In-situ EBSD Observations of Recrystallization and Texture Evolution in Cold Rolled Mg-2Zn-xCe (wt%)

The recrystallization and texture evolution of cold rolled Mg-2Zn (wt%) with 0.2wt%Ce and 0.6wt%Ce were studied by combining annealing with EBSD analysis. EBSD orientation maps of the same microstructural patch were obtained at RT, and at 150°C to 350°C at 25°C increments. New grains nucleated at 150°C and recrystallization was complete by 275°C. New grains with a misorientation angle-axis relationship of 60 ⁰C about <10-10>, 56 ⁰C about <11-20>, and 86 ⁰C about <11-20> were observed. This was expected to be due to the growth of (10-12)-(10-12) double twins, contraction twins, and extension twins, which formed during the rolling process. The misorientation axis relationship along <10-10>, <11-20>, <10-11>, <11-21> were characterized for the newly nucleated grains. The misorientation angles were uniformly distributed between 30° and 90° in both alloys, and the texture and grain size were similar. The results will be discussed and compared with Mg-3Al-1Zn (wt%).
