Abstract Scope |
In the present study, we propose the influence of acid pretreatments on PEO film over AM50 Mg alloy to investigate electrochemical corrosion behavior. Sulphuric (H2SO4), nitric (HNO3), sulphuric/nitric (H2SO4+HNO3) and chromic acids (CrO3) were used for pretreatment and PEO film was produced in alkaline Na2SiO3 bath. On phase analysis of PEO film, it was composed of periclase and forsterite. The electrochemical corrosion behavior of PEO film formed on the acid pretreated Mg alloy was studied by using open circuit potential, potentiodynamic and potentiostatic polarization in 3.5 % NaCl solution. From the results, it was seen that PEO film with acid pretreated improved the corrosion resistance in compared to untreated substrates. HNO3 acid pretreated PEO coating exhibited better corrosion resistance for the AM50 alloy than the other acid pretreated PEO coatings. The corrosion resistance of pretreated and PEO coated alloys was increased by two orders of magnitude compared to untreated alloy. |
