The goal is to demonstrate an innovative approach to the development of the mining process flow sheet that enables a drastic reduction in the number of stages of ore beneficiation in comparison to the conventional plants. The authors propose a "compact process flow" utilizing VRM (Vertical Roll Mill). This represents a fundamental departure from the standard flow chart while reducing cost and improving quality of concentrate. The ball mills currently used do not ensure proper liberation of ore grains and have a poor power consumption performance. All finely disseminated ores containing metals and industrial minerals require extra grinding to a particle size that allows to liberate the targeted component. In VRM ore is crushed to provide nearly full liberation of ore grains. The use of VRM represents an essential change in the way how the processing plants are designed in terms of their capital and operating costs, energy savings and environmental protection.
