Abstract Scope The SiCp/Al matrix composite material has many advantages such as the outstanding mechanical, physical, and high wear resistance properties, so that it has been widely used in cheaper and lighter engineering components. Extensive work has been done in the area of stir casting, spray co-deposition, semi-solid thixo-forming and so on, however, the previous research mainly aimed at the machine part other than strip. In order to meet the requirement of industry development, a short flow process based on twin-roll casting was presented to fabricate the SiCp/Al matrix composite strip in this paper. And a pilot experiment was carried out to investigate the microstructure and properties of SiCp/Al matrix composite strip through SEM observation and mechanical test. It shows that the uniformity of particle distribution, compactness and mechanical property is satisfactory.
