Abstract Scope Additive manufacturing or 3-D printing is a recent & revolutionized trend for the production of material in the world. Additive manufacturing is favored for manufacturing complex and intricate geometries, which can be a challenge using traditional methods (Arc melting). Stainless steel is a multicomponent material and its importance can be evident from the plenitude use of it for different applications from decorative to workhorse. The additive manufacturing of the enormously used stainless steel opened the new horizons of research in terms of material microstructure, chemistry and the properties related to them. Passivation of the stainless steel relies greatly on the nature of the electrolyte surrounding it. This research focuses on the microstructural & electrochemical comparative analysis of 3-D printed and Arc melted 316L stainless steel at different pH values (1-12) of DI water and at different ppms (0,100,200,300,400 & 500) of chloride ions.
