Abstract Scope At PNNL we have combined high speed imaging and digital image correlation technique to quantify room temperature deformation behavior of Aluminum alloys. Aluminum sheets were deformed at room temperature at quasi-static and high (exceeding 1000 /s using electrohydraulic forming (EHF) technique) strain-rates. This has resulted in a wealth of spatial and temporal strain data. This work will discuss the deformation behavior of aluminum sheet including strain path, strain- strain rate relationships. The ability of digital image correlation technique to accurately measure strain near the failure region and identify location of safe and unsafe strains strain vis-a-vis conventional grid technique will also be discussed with a focus on several adjustable parameters in commercially available digital image correlation software Vic 3D.
