||Recovery of Manganese from Electrolytic Manganese Residues by Microwave-assisted Leaching

The disposal of electrolytic manganese residues, a solid waste generated during the extraction of manganese from manganese ore, is one of the major problems faced by the manganese industry. The main aim of this work was to evaluate the possibility of using microwave to assist the efficient recovery of Mn from electrolytic manganese residues(EMR). The characterization of EMR and leached EMR(LEMR) were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) analysis, X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis and chemical analysis. The extraction efficiency of manganese reached 86.6% under the optimum conditions of microwave power with 400W, 1mol/L H2SO4, solid-to-liquid ratio of 1:8, 80℃ and 60 min extraction. The extraction efficiency of manganese is 40.2% higher than that attained under the same conditions without microwave irradiation.
