||Fe-based Alloys: A New Class of High Strength Low-degradation Biodegradable Metals for Health Applications

Degradable metals have been shown their potential for designing temporary medical devices filling clinical needs for various surgical treatments. If Mg-based alloys already reached maturity, Zn-based alloys are only at the first stages of development, Fe-based alloys still demand some refinement and further studies, especially in vivo. However, the potential of Fe-based alloys for designing and developing alloys showing incredible mechanical properties, in particular high strength and strong ductility, and tremendous biological performances is unique. In this talk, this potential will be critically discussed, especially in the perspective of the properties that will be required from materials for treating specific diseases where surgery today does not have any reliable solutions.
