The OpenCalphad initiative has developed a free, flexible and powerful software for calculation of equilibria in multicomponent materials for varying conditions. It can also handle kinetic data (e.g mobilties) and other materials properties that depend on T, P and the composition of each phase (e.g. lattice parameters, elastic constants). It has a software interface that can be called from application written in Fortran, C/C++, Python etc for use in simulations of phase transformations and materials processing design. This interface and some applications will be described in this lecture.
