Abstract Scope |
A novel powder manipulation approach is developed to make special core-shell powder by employing fluidized bed chemical vapor deposition. A series of core-shell powders were produced, including metal@metal, ceramic@metal, fiber@metal and metal@carbon nanotube powders. The coating layer is uniformly distributed on the coated matrix with a good interfacial binding and its thickness is controllable. By designing the compositions, these powder are purposely used for making high-performance alloys and ceramic, fiber or carbon nanotube reinforced metal matrix composites by powder metallurgy or additive manufacturing. For example, metal@metal powders were designed for strengthening the interactive effect between laser and metal powder during additive manufacturing; ceramic@metal and metal@carbon nanotube powders were used for making metal matrix composites by powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing; fiber@metal powders were used for producing high-performance fiber reinforced metal matrix composites by powder metallurgy. More details about the core-shell powder fabrication will be given in this talk. |
