||New Design of High Strength Wrought Aluminum Alloys

Principles of optimization of the phase composition of a new group of high strength wrought aluminum alloys are considered. A feature of new wrought aluminum alloys is iron, which in the present work is considered as an alloying component (up to 0.5 wt. %) and not a harmful impurity. Additional alloying of the alloy with nickel or calcium neutralizes the harmful effect of iron. The new alloy possesses an improved combination of properties (including fatigue and corrosion properties) is adaptable to the current manufacture, which allows us to recommend it as a substitute for high-strength commercial wrought aluminum alloys of 7xxx series, for example alloy type 7075. The weldability of the new material is an additional advantage compared with the alloy type 7075.
