||Numerical Simulation of Fluid Flow and Surface Fluctuation in Continuous Casting Mold with Vertical Electromagnetic Brake

A Vertical Electromagnetic Brake (V-EMBr) was proposed in continuous casting mould, which have vertical magnetic poles near the narrow sides of the mould from the meniscus to the impinge point of melt steel. The numerical simulation of fluid flow and surface fluctuation in continuous casting mould with V-EMBr was investigated with different casting speed, immersion depth of nozzle and magnetic flux density. The results show that the V-EMBr is effective to control the impinging of melt steel to the narrow sides of mould and surface fluctuation near meniscus in the continuous casting mould under a suitable magnetic flux density, which is helpful to reduce the mold flux entrapment near the meniscus of continuous casting mould.
