Presentation Title Thermophysical and Kinetic Properties of Fe60Cr21Ni19 - Measurements under Reduced Gravity Conditions

Abstract Scope The thermophysical properties of FeCrNi have been measured in a first set of experiments on the International Space Station with a containerless electromagnetic processing device. Properties investigated include the sequence of metastable phase formation on cooling, the surface tension and the viscosity and the analysis of cooling curves for the determination of the density in the liquid phase and for the ratio of the specific heat capacity to the total hemispherical emissivity. The first measurements will be followed by more detailed calorimetric and thermal transport measurements and by an investigation of the effect of magnetic stirring on metastable phase formation. Measurements of the surface tension and viscosity were performed on board parabolic flights and on the ISS. Modelling of the surface tension of this alloy system has been performed and will be compared with the experimental results as well as with available surface tension data of related alloy systems.
