Abstract Scope |
Porous structure was commonly used as channel for working fluid in heat dissipation application because of its capillary force and permeability. Because powder injection molding (PIM) process has sufficiently high production rate and shape complexity, the porous copper structures were fabricated by PIM process and space holder technique with copper powder, space holder (NaCl and PMMA), and wax-polymer binder system, in this research. Various structures with different pore size and porosity were fabricated by using different size of space holder and different contents of space holder. The critical solid loading of the feedstock containing the space holder was measured by torque rheometer experiments. The feedstocks were produced by twin-extruder mixer. After green parts were prepared by using injection molding machine, debinding, removing the space holder, and sintering processes were conducted. The effect of space holder’s size and contents and processing condition like sintering temperature on the characteristics of the porous structure were investigated through measuring the pore size and porosity. Finally, thermal properties and mechanical properties of the porous structures was measured. |
