Abstract Scope ATI 718 Plus is a high temperature aero engine nickel-base superalloy with primarily γ′ precipitates for improved high temperature strength and toughness over the workhorse IN718 alloy. In the first part of this talk, we will report on the evolution, kinetics and mechanisms of the γ′ and η-Ni3Ti precipitation and solute partitioning utilizing a combination of conventional TEM, HRTEM, STEM-HAADF, STEM-EDS and counterpart APT measurements and related analyses. In the second part of the talk, the temperature and strain rate dependence of strength, ductility and fracture behavior of the alloy, followed by the impact of advanced mechanical surface treatments like LSP and UNSM on near-surface microstructure, stress states, strengthening and fatigue behavior will be reported. These studies are integrated with SEM, EBSD, TEM and STEM-EDS observations and analyses to shed light on deformation, fatigue and failure mechanisms at room and elevated temperatures, particularly environmental, processing, microstructural and residual stress effects.
