Presentation Title Effect of Reactive Silica on Extraction of Alumina from Gibbsitic Bauxite at Atmospheric Pressure Digestion

Abstract Scope The leaching of the aluminum hydroxide from gibbsite bauxite studied under atmospheric condition. The leaching of the aluminum hydroxide is carried out from high silica bauxite in alkaline solution. High levels of silica lead to unwanted alumina and soda loss through disposed of mud, whereas high levels of silica effects on liquor stability. It highlights the importance of suitable blending of the various Bauxites feeding a refinery on a routine basis to control silica at desired levels. The result shows the digestion rates of gibbsite and kaolinite in aluminate solution influenced by reaction conditions such as temperature and caustic concentration. The micro-essence of the different reaction activities among gibbsite and kaolinite in aluminate solution was opened out. It had found that the reaction activities of kaolinite are different. The desilication during digestion stage with the addition of Calcium Hydroxy Aluminate (CHA) lower the soluble silica in sodium aluminate liquor.
