||LL-91: The Effects of Carbon on the Rare Earth Elements Distribution in NdFeB Magnet

In order to investigate the effects of Carbon on rare earth distribution in the NdFeB magnet, the sintered Nd2Fe14B samples were placed on the graphite substrate at elevated temperatures from 900 to 1400oC. The wettability of the NdFeB materials on graphite was characterized by an in-situ high temperature observation. It found the original Nd2Fe14B phase disappeared and some rare earth carbides phase appeared. These experimental results give an alternative way to enrich the rare earth elements from permanent magnet to a new phase.
Along with the research, the X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), inductive-coupled plasma spectroscopy (ICP), CS analyses were applied.
