| Abstract Scope |
Effect of gadolinium and yttrium addition on strength of Mg-Li alloy was investigated using the metallographic observation, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results indicate that the strengths were greatly improved with gadolinium and yttrium additions, in which the tensile strength was 209 MPa and the elongation was 18.4%, respectively. Through comparing with the Mg-Li alloy, the increments of tensile strength was 57 MPa, respectively. The improved strength was mainly correlated to the grain refining effect, the strengthening effect of the Mg5Gd phases and also the hardening effect of the solutioned gadolinium and yttrium atoms. |
