||Influence of Operation Parameters on Mass Fraction of Sulfur in the Hot Metal in COREX Process

COREX has apparent advantages in environment protecting but still some disadvantages, for example, the higher sulfur content of hot metal. The thermodynamics and dynamics of desulfurization have been done to find out the main operation parameters related to the mass fraction of sulfur in the hot metal. And statistical analysis have been carried out to study the relationship between operation parameters and sulfur content of hot metal of COREX based on actual plant data. It is found that the mass fraction of sulfur in the hot metal is significantly influenced by the content of C of hot metal, MgO/Al2O3 in slag, the concentration of MgO in slag, the temperature of hot metal and R2.A linear model was developed and subsequently used for minimizing the mass fraction of sulfur in the hot metal to improve the quality of hot metal and make contribution for low carbon ironmaking.
