In this presentation, residual strain fields with respect to the material’s microstructure are examined and compared between experiments and Crystal Plasticity Fast Fourier Transform (CP-FFT) simulations. The microstructure for rolled Al7050-T7451 was experimentally obtained with EBSD scans along three distinct textured directions. The residual strain fields found on the simulation were then compared to the fields found on the specimens via Digital Image Correlation (DIC). The results showed that the statistical levels of strain concentration predicted by the simulation were reasonable on all three specimens. Additional studies add corrosion on the columnar material and finds the surface roughness with a profilometer as means of corrosion pitting. Strain fields obtain by DIC, due to cyclic loading, combined with grain boundary characterization from EBSD scans are used to identify the driving force galvanic corrosion.
