Abstract Scope |
Aluminum alloy 7075 has been studied to be an alternative to replace some steels within the automotive industry. It has been previously demonstrated that this alloy can be processed using the ARB method. This method improves the mechanical strength of the material through grain size refinement and strain hardening. The ARB method is comprised of iterative cycles of stacking, rolling and cross-cutting of sheets. An advantage of this method is that the final thickness remains constant. In the present work, sheets of aluminum alloy 7075 were processed at 120 °C up to three cycles of ARB. After processing, the grain size was reduced from 80 to 2.3 μm. As a result, a yield stress and a UTS of 620 and 660 MPa, respectively, were achieved. |
