Computational methods have proven to be useful tools in the development and optimization of manufacturing processes. However, these techniques require a significant amount of input data that, due to the realities of manufacturing, can be quite costly to acquire. To address this challenge, ASM International is conducting a feasibility study to determine how organizations can work together to gather and share pre-competitive in-process manufacturing data and how this collaboration might impact the adoption of integrated computational materials science and engineering methods. This paper will provide a summary of the findings and describe potential approaches for creating a well-pedigreed and sustainable manufacturing database that can be accessed across organizations.
