||Orientation Dependence of the Mechanical Response and Microstructural Evolution of NiCoCr Single Crystal Medium Entropy Alloys

Room temperature stress-strain response and microstructural evolution of equiatomic single crystalline NiCoCr medium entropy alloys were investigated along the ,  and  orientations as a function of strain under tensile loading. The interaction of twins and multiple slip mechanisms in  orientation leads to higher hardening in stage II whereas 1 slip system prevails in  and . Stress-strain response of  shows linear hardening with 4 distinct deformation stages however  and  orientations show upper and lower yield strengths and the Lüder’s type propagation. Nanotwins were activated at the true strain of 10% in  orientation however they were observed at the true strain of <10% in  and <4% in  which is the lowest strain value observed in this material. Overall the earlier activation of twins in  and  orientations can be the reason for the greater elongation to fractures than  orientation.
