||X-8: Influence of Deformation Temperature on Mechanical and Corrosion Behaviour of 6082-Al Alloy

The 6082 Al alloy was subjected to cryorolling and cold rolling up to 75% thickness reduction. The cryorolled sample showed higher grain refinement as compared to cold rolled sample due to suppression of dynamic recovery during cryorolling as confirmed by EBSD and TEM study. The significant improvement in hardness and tensile strength of cryorolled (CR) sample was obtained as compared to cold rolled sample. Further annealing at 200˚C, the ductility, hardness and tensile strength have increased for cryorolled sample as compared to cold rolled sample. Electrochemical investigation has shown that the passive potential range of CR sample was large as compared to cold rolled sample due to more grain refinement. The corrosion resistance of CR sample has significantly improved as compared to cold rolled sample after annealing at 300˚C for 1 hr.
