||PP-12: Effect of Boron Addition on High Manganese Steel

The work examines the relationship between microstructural characterization and mechanical property of high Mn steel with different contents of B in ppm rate. The composition is selected to obtain relatively high mechanical properties with low alloy contents and different B contents. The steel samples studies were conducted in both the as-received state and normalized state with different normalization temperatures and different heating time. The results revealed with increased normalization temperature and B content, austenite grain-sizes changes when compared to those of lower normalization temperatures and B content. Hardness of the samples with different normalization temperatures and holding time were measured, the result revealed that samples normalized at different temperature with various holding time have different values. It also reveals considerable change in wear properties, pin-on disk process. B inhibits the nucleation of austenite and martensite transformation at the grain boundary is also affected the depth in which the steel hardened.
