||Modeling Solidification, Grain Growth, and Phase Transformation by A Modified Two-Mode Phase-Field Crystal Model

The recently modified two-mode Phase-Field Crystal (PFC) model by Asadi and Asle Zaeem (Comput. Mater. Sci. 2015) is used to study nucleation, solidification, and grain growth phenomena in two dimensions (2D). The PFC model acts on diffusive time scales and provides atomistic scale details for nano-structural evolution. The 2D phase diagram of the model is calculated which has three stable phases with square, triangular, and stripe lattices. The effect of different parameters on the nucleation and solidification rates, grain morphologies, and structural phase transformations is studied. Finally, a comprehensive study is performed to investigate the effect of the thermal noise amplitude on different phenomena.
