||Synthesis and Grain Growth Rates of Ti-Ni-Sn Based Thermoelectric Alloys

Synthesis and characterization of TiNiSn and TiNi1.15Sn thermoelectric materials were investigated. The effect of annealing duration and temperature on grain growth and microstructure were studies. The average grain size of TiNiSn is calculated with an average value of 28.84 nm. Phase analysis and corresponding characterization was carried out for the studied TiNiSn thermoelectric alloys. Unalloyed Sn and Ti6Sn5 binary phase were observed with smaller annealing duration. With the addition of Ni content, secondary phase of TiNi2Sn was observed and it’s grain size was smaller than the TiNiSn. Results showed that an annealing time of minimum 3 weeks at 800°C are needed to obtain a homogeneous TiNiSn phase.
