In order to determine the most suitable refractory products and to improve the lining life of the refractories in the diverse furnaces of the nonferrous metal industry, practical corrosion testing at RHI`s Technology Center are performed. For this purpose the practical test-facilities, such as induction furnace, rotary kiln, cup test and drip slag test described in detail in the paper, allow the best possible understanding of the chemothermal brick wear on the pilot scale. Corrosion trials are performed with processing slags received from the customers. In order to determine the highest influencing wear parameter every single testing is combined with a complete mineralogical investigation and thermo-chemical calculation via Fact Sage. Based on the results tailor-made refractory solutions for the nonferrous metal industry can be provided in combination with practice trials at customer`s sites.
